The Hans family is unplugging....for one day.
I started thinking recently about how much of our weekends are chewed up with watching TV, checking Facebook, and playing Super Mario Bros. and Angry Birds and I decided that it is time to try something new.
So, this morning in the car, I asked Josh what he thought of no screen time all day on Saturday. No TV, no Wii, no Kindle Fire, I explained. He thought for a moment and said, "I think that would break my brain" but after another moment or so, he agreed to give it a try. I also knew he and Eli would be the easy ones. I was not at all sure that I could convince J

After I picked Jonah up from school, I asked Josh to explain the idea to his brother. Jonah was skeptical, but didn't say much about it in the car on the way home. I think maybe he was hoping it was just a joke or that I would forget about it. No such luck. So, when we brought it up again later, he tried to convince me that the rest of us could do it, but that he would still play his Nintendo DS. Then he said, "But I can't live without the TV!"
Oh dear.
I couldn't have asked for a more convincing reason to unplug. And add the fact that Jon and I are just as guilty of spending WAY too much time connected to electronic devices...well, we just need to do this.
And so, on Saturday we will be outside enjoying the beautiful weather (I hope those weather reports are right!), cleaning the house, playing games, reading, baking...anything but facing a screen.
Wish us luck!
